John Davis and Robert Kalanda, of Gilbertson Davis LLP, were co-presenters at The Knowledge Group’s recent Webcast ‘Cyber Insurance: Latest Developments in 2016‘, on March 21, 2016. The panel also included Barry Fleishman of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP and Jamie Hull of Cassiday Schade LLP.
The webinar focused on issues and developments of interest to both Canadian and United States businesses, insurers, organizations, claims professionals, adjusters, and risk managers who are involved with Cyber Insurance Coverages under Standalone Cyber and more traditional insurance policies, and Cyber Risks, Data Breach, Information Security, Cybersecurity and Privacy issues.
The panel discussed the judicial, legislative and regulatory developments as well as important considerations bearing on Applications for Cyber policies, including identification and prioritization of risks and exposures, the impact of conditions and exclusions, and the role of counsel as part of the data breach and Cybersecurity response team.
John L. Davis is the Managing Partner of Gilbertson Davis LLP, a Toronto based insurance and commercial litigation boutique. John’s practice focuses on insurance defence, coverage, subrogation/recovery and related matters. He has had experience at all levels of Ontario Courts. John also has Industry experience as an in-house Claims Counsel with an insurance company dealing with large loss commercial property and casualty exposures.
With the attention given in both the public and private sectors to the prevention and management of data breach and cyber liability, John and the Firm have leveraged their experience and skills to build a privacy and cyber practice group within the Firm’s insurance and commercial litigation practice.
Robert is an Associate Lawyer with Gilbertson Davis LLP, and practices in civil and commercial litigation, with a focus on privacy, business and contractual disputes, and intellectual property disputes, including issues relating to cyber insurance and data breach liability. Robert has appeared before the Superior Court, Divisional Court, and Court of Appeal of Ontario, and Federal Court of Canada.
