Junior Commercial Litigation and/or Specialty Insurance Litigation Lawyer (3-5 years experience) for suitable Entrepreneurial Applicant with practice, marketing and administrative aptitude who seeks to build a practice and grow with us.
Skillsets & Experience Sought:
- Keen analytical, drafting, advocacy, research, computer literacy, organizational, written and oral communication abilities;
- Superior social and interpersonal skills capable of cordial interactions with staff and lawyers, and respectful interactions with clients, opposing counsel, courts and tribunals;
- Deep appreciation of professional ethics;
- Ability to work both collaboratively on site in a cordial Boutique Environment at our downtown Toronto offices with some flexibility for remote working as necessary, with senior, intermediate and junior lawyers as well as independently;
- Intimate acquaintance with the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedureand Practice Directions honed on motions and in court;
- Strong academic achievements at a top- ranking law school;
- Ability to adapt to a wide variety of practice areas, with flexibility to develop individually preferred practice areas as exemplified on our website;
- Interest in participating in and building a Commercial Litigation and/or Specialty Insurance Practice (whether in court, in arbitration or as appropriate, before administrative bodies) with a developed marketing plan and a commitment to participate actively to our web presence through our web marketing platform;
- Involvement in the new client/file intake process, including drafting retainer agreements; drafting marketing or advertising material for legal services, including law firm website content; and regularly blogging and / or writing on matters of interest to potential clients of legal services;
- Ability to meet a deadline and who will demonstrate organizational ability in the maintenance with us of our joint Commercial Litigation File List;
- Respectful adherence to public health recommendations absent compelling medical or religious grounds for exemptions to which we are able to accommodate in our work environment;
- Competence in at least one other language other than English is an asset, though not a requirement, and candidates from minority and diverse populations are welcome.

Intermediate to Mid-Level (5 Years +) Seeking a Specialty Insurance and/or Commercial Litigation Lawyer for suitable Entrepreneurial Applicant with at least a partial book of business, with a demonstrated aptitude for attracting clients, and who may seek an early Path to Equity Partnership Participation. Compensation is performance based on a share of billed and recovered fees. The position will appeal to a Self-Starter who is committed to the practice of law, and who has keen analytical, drafting, advocacy, research, computer literacy, organizational, written and oral communication, social and interpersonal skills, and who has as a deeply rooted appreciation of professional ethics. Applicants must have the ability to work on site both collaboratively in a cordial Boutique Environment with senior, intermediate and junior lawyers as well as independently, with some flexibility for remote working, as necessary and as the case requires. Candidates must have developed an intimate acquaintance with the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and Practice Directions honed on motions and in court during their years of practice following strong academic achievements at a top- ranking law school. Position requires an ability to respond quickly to the demands of a Specialty Insurance and/or Commercial Litigation practice, including the development and deployment of a file and client based specialty insurance and/or commercial litigation strategy, and experience or at least a demonstrable interest and training in one or more of the following litigation practices: Specialty/Complex/Catastrophic/Large Loss Insurance Litigation, including Coverage, Defence, Subrogation, and Defence-side Accident Benefits, business and commercial disputes; internet and technology; civil fraud (with a focus on investment and relationship fraud); real estate litigation including Condo Corporation and Management disputes, defamation (with emphasis upon online business defamation), commercial leasing litigation, and acting for those seeking or responding to injunctions, and other urgent equitable remedies.
These opportunities will appeal to those who wish to maintain and build a Specialty Insurance and/or Commercial Litigation practice (whether in court, in arbitration or as appropriate, before administrative bodies), who are familiar with the hard work essential to success in practice, have a marketing plan, are comfortable with the technological innovations demanded by modern practice, and who wish to assert greater control over their career prospects than may be on offer at other firms with an employer/employee employment model. Persuasive real-world experience in the following areas would be beneficial: history of direct retention by clients for legal services and involvement in the new client/file intake process, including drafting retainer agreements; drafting marketing or advertising material for legal services, including law firm website content; and regularly blogging and / or writing on matters of interest to potential clients of legal services. Candidates who have had business experience or interests and know how to meet a deadline, or who have an undergraduate business degree, would be among those who might find this position suited to their practice objectives, though we are open to applicants from a variety of academic and career backgrounds.
